7 Simple Daily Habits for a Happier Life

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony. - Mahatma Gandhi Click To Tweet

Is there a foolproof way to achieve happiness in your life? Not really, because happiness is a state of mind. It literally means to accept and appreciate what you already have.

Here are my favorite 7 simple daily habits that are going to help you get in that positive state of mind.

1. Forget About the “Snooze” Button

If you don’t use an alarm clock, chances are you prefer a smartphone to wake you up in the morning. When you snooze for “just 5 more minutes,” you are actually depriving yourself from waking up fresh and feeling well-rested. Your brain automatically perceives that you are going to sleep for a couple of hours and begins the sleeping cycle all over again.

Let me give you a tip that works pretty well, especially if you are a heavy sleeper: put your phone at the farthest corner of the room. That way, there’s no escaping having to get up to stop the alarm in the morning.

A full sleep cycle lasts about 90 minutes and is normally repeated several times each night. If you want to start your day in a good mood, try to get 7.30 or 9 hours of sleep nightly.

2. Drink Lemon Water or Tea

I used to be one of those people who weren’t able to say their name out loud in the morning, without a cup of coffee first. The truth is you don’t necessarily need it to wake up, you are simply addicted to the energy boost it gives you.

If you want to be happier and healthier, try an alternative to coffee like lemon water or herbal tea in the morning. You won’t feel as anxious and stressed as you will from caffeine, and at the same time you will feel more awake.

3. Keep a 2-Minute Journal

If your mind is troubled by too many intrusive thoughts in the morning, one of the best ways to fix that is by writing your thoughts down. By doing that, you will not only free your mind, but you will also feel lifted and ready to start your day in a positive way.

4. Be Grateful

There are a lot of things we want to accomplish on daily basis but being grateful is the best way to acknowledge everything you already have in your life. Write down 5 things you’re grateful for and experience the flow of calm and pure joy that comes from it.

5. Meditate

Meditation doesn’t have to take much of your time. You can start by simply sitting in a comfortable position and breathing slowly with your eyes closed for at least 5 minutes a day. When you learn to do it on daily basis, you can switch to 10 or 15 minutes in the morning. Trust me, once you’re committed, this will make all the difference in the world about the way you handle daily stress.

6. Smell the Flowers

This technique I like to call “smell the flowers,” because it reminds me of that beautiful feeling that you experience when you’re walking—and you suddenly see some beautiful flowers nearby. You have 2 choices: walk by them or stop and smell them. By doing the latter, you recognize and appreciate the present moment, and learn to let go.

7. The “3 Positive Things” Diary

One of the best ways to finish off your day is to keep a positive diary. Some days could be more challenging than others but it’s important to reframe the way your brain thinks. Write down three things that made you happy every night and you will see for yourself that it completely changes the way you feel at the end of the day.

No matter how many bad things happened to you, you can always find something positive to focus on. And then get your restful sleep.

Wishing you a beautiful day,
